Huawei Ideos S7 Slim: The Best and Cheaper Alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung Galaxy Tab series, no doubt are really very expensive gadgets that many, especially in developing countries can’t easily afford which pretty much raises the need for a much cheaper alternative.

Definitely, most people want to enjoy the luxury of a cheaper Tablet PC that can use a GSM SIM card for 3G internet connectivity, just like the Samsung Galaxy Tabs and the Huawei Ideos S7 Slim surfaced to satisfy this need.

The Huawei Ideos S7 Slim, which is a slimmer version of it’s predecessor, the Huawei Ideos S7, was announced on February 2011 and released April 2011. This cheaper and yet effective Samsung Galaxy Tab alternative runs on the Android OS 2.2 ( Android Froyo) with a wide 7″ TFT captivative touch screen display with 256k colours. It also runs on the powerful Qualcomm QSD8X50 Snapdragon chipset with a 1GHz Scorpion CPU. This is also coupled with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory which provides even much more power to handle even heavier multifunction tasks.

With these few specs, I am sure you would agree with me that Huawei has really taken some things out of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in a bid to cut costs and still make the product competitive. These are things you may not really consider a bid deal, especially if you are the type that buys a gadget for functionality and for a display of class and style.

You can surf the internet on 3G from any GSM network provider and also with WiFi, access the android app store to download any android app of your choice, make video calls, watch movies in many movie formats, you just name it. Its basic functional capabilities are as much as that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

The Huawei Ideos S7 Slim actually costs a little over 300 US dollars and should cost about N55,000 in Nigeria or maybe less.

With all that has been explained, you are sure to get your money’s worth at a cheaper price, so if you cant afford a 7″ Samsung Galaxy Tab with GSM capability, don’t bother because you have got a quality and yet cheaper alternative, just get the Huawei Ideos S7 Slim.

Cheers!

Nokia 500: Cheap, Great, But Not Too Good.

The Nokia 500 is somewhat the cheapest Nokia smart phone with a processor speed of 1GHz and captivating touchscreen at the cost of N30,000, about $200USD. Weighing just about 93g, it carries the Symbian Anna OS which is upgradeable to the new and more efficient and effective Symbian Belle OS.

Although, not much of an attractive design and outlook, the screen display is really captivative with a 5MP camera that takes pictures and videos in good quality, at least, for it’s price tag.

It has to be said, the Nokia 500 is wacko in some areas especially when you upgrade to the Symbian Belle OS. Although some has proved otherwise, you are sure to experience slow processing capabilities as well as slow touch navigation. I advice you stick to the Symbian Anna OS.

The 256MB RAM included in this device is laughable. No mobile that seeks to be “High-End” can run effectively on that, even if the processor speed is a lot faster than 1GHz. Some could say it works okay for them but of course, you could be lucky but don’t bet on that.

For the listed specifications of the Nokia 500, check out GSMArena’s Nokia 500 specs.

Nokia should realise that in a bid to produce High-Ends, some important technicalities can not be compromised.

The New Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 Cheap Dual-Sim Standby Phone

Nokia just recently announced these two new cheap phones ( one of them, a dual sim phone) that are obviously directed to the low income earners in the society or maybe to those that make a lot of calls and also need to make that much calls to grow their businesses. I wouldn’t call this second category of consumers poor, I would just regard them as those who don’t really give a hoot about technology but just maybe need something smaller with a longer battery life to make calls and maybe, listen to a little of music.

Even though you might be a proud owner of a high-end smart phone, it’s always advisable that you have a smaller phone like these for regular phone calls, because you never know what might happen, the “true owner” of that high-end Smartphone might come for it without your knowledge or forcefully take it from you with your knowledge. LOL!

Well, looking at the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101, not really beautiful but rather gets the job done. I mean, isn’t that what you want?

While the Nokia 101 is a Dual-Sim Standby phone, the Nokia 100 is not. I believe this difference in feature as well as the fact that the Nokia 101 has an mp3 player and memory card slot which the Nokia 100 also doesn’t have should make the Nokia 101 higher in price than the Nokia 100.

Just think of a Nokia 1280. Now imagine that it has got a slightly larger coloured screen. Ha! Now you have the Nokia 100 in your imagination. Now, further imagine that this slightly bigger coloured screen Nokia 1280 has got an mp3 player, memory card slot and dual-sim standby technology. Yes! You now have an almost perfect picture of the Nokia 101 in your imagination but in reality, you would be pleased because it looks better than that as it comes in different ranges of beautiful colours.

I used to think of a weird possibility of two people sharing cheap dual-sim phone. Yeah, i know what you might be thinking; it might be theoretically possible but practically STUPID! I guess it could work though for the poverty stricken folks- Don’t mind me!

When you compare the Nokia 101 to the Nokia X1-01, I did prefer the Nokia 101 even though they possess the same specifications. The Nokia X1-01 is just a hammer-head compared to the Nokia 101. It’s practically too heavy for its specifications at 91 grams, even when it can’t support Java applications. The Nokia 101 at 69.6 grams is very okay for what it performs, even though it doesn’t support Java applications like the hammer-head Nokia X1-01.

Let’s look at the key specifications of the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101

Nokia C2-03 and Nokia C2-06, The Two New Cheap Dual Sim Phones

These two supposedly cheap dual sim phones, Nokia C2-03 Touch and Type and the Nokia C2-06 Touch and Type were announced at around July 2011 but are yet to infiltrate the market. It’s obvious that these cheap phones are centered towards continually grabbing the emerging markets, i.e. developing and underdeveloped countries and also retaining the market share. It could seem that Nokia is now tailoring ways in ensuring they penetrate and dominate the dual sim phones segment of the emerging markets which Samsung has somewhat established itself.

Let’s not drift further but shift our attention back to the dual sim phones in question.  Looking at the specifications of these two cheap phones, it’s evident that they virtually have the same specifications but the only perceived differences are the phones’ colors. This makes me wonder what actually is wrong with Nokia sometimes. Is it that they have suddenly run out of ideas and delve into wasteful production?

The Nokia C2-03 Touch and Type and the Nokia C2-06 (Touch and Type) possesses the same key specifications listed below.

  • Dual-Sim with Easy Swap Sim Support (no need to reboot the phone)
  • 56K Colors TFT Resistive Touchscreen
  • 240*320 Pixels , 2.6 Inches Screen Display with Handwriting Recognition
  • Internal Memory of 10MB
  • microSD memory card slot that takes up to a 32GB microSD card with a 2GB microSD card already included.
  • GPRS/EDGE Internet Connectivity
  • Stereo Loudspeakers with 3.5 mm audio jack, so you can use any earphone of your choice.

  • QCIF video recording @ 15fps

Of all the specs of these two cheap dual sim phones, I find two things rather disappointing. They are QCIF video recording and Dual Sim Swap functionality. So many cheap crappy Chinese phones these days now record video in QVGA, why does Nokia choose to remain in the era of QCIF video recording in this modern day and age. On the second point, why is it so hard for Nokia to stop announcing cheap dual sim phones of this quality with sim swap? Why not dual sim standby that will allow both networks to be active at the same time.

Nokia announced the Nokia C2 to have this dual sim standby feature but from all indications, it might never be released. Even the most recently announced Nokia X1-01 nokia music phone with it’s minimalistic specs and the dual sim standby feature, has not yet been released.

Funny enough, I’m sure that despite all these shortcomings, these two cheap dual sim phones will definitely make good sales especially if the pricing is very attractive. Let’s wait and see.

Nokia X1: The Cheapest Nokia Phone with Music Player.

The Nokia X1, is what I would want to call a cheap and simple MP3 player phone. It’s definitely the cheapest Nokia phone with an MP3 player. There is nothing quite spectacular about this cheap phone aside from the fact that it has a powerful battery Li-ion 1320mAh (BL-5J) which is also used by the Nokia 5800XM, a MP3 player and a microSD card slot that carries up to a 16GB microSD memory card. It’s not a dual sim phone like the Nokia X1-01 but is sure to provide graet value at such a cheap price

If you want to buy an MP3 player, why not try buying this cheap phone-Nokia X1 and enjoy even more specs at a very cheap price. This cheap phone, which was announced on March 2011 was released on May 2011 and will gradually hit the shelves of all mobile phone stores worldwide including Nigeria. The price of this cheap phone should start from N4000-N5000 naira. I believe this cheap phone was made with low income earners in mind and is sure to make very huge turnovers among people of this class and even those of a higher class that would need a simple cheap phone with music from Nokia.
